CAS Watercolour July Challenge - happy birthday

The CAS Watercolour July Challenge is Splash Watercolouring hosted by Nancy. This is the last month she's on the CAS Watercolour Challenge Design Team. Thanks so much for all your wonderful inspiration, Nancy!

I've never tried this technique, so first I watched Loll's tutorial video suggested on the challenge site. It was very helpful and immediately inspired me to try it!

And here's my card:

I had so much fun making Splash Watercolour backgrounds and I made several of them with Distress Oxide Inks.

I thought a silhouette image would be good for this background and I wanted to try a silhouette in a different color from my usual black. So I stamped the flowers in Champagne ink, but they didn't stand out at all. 😞 Then I could have gold heat-embossed over the stamped image, but I decided to go with Stickles for a change. The gold glitter might compete with the fine splashes behind, but it added an interesting texture to the background.

I used the black frame to ground the splash panel but the contrast was a little too stark, so I inserted a very thin matte in between, colored in Blueprint Sketch.
The sentiment was first stamped in Champagne ink to give a cohesive base to the glitter embossing powder.

Thanks for visiting me today!

Stamp: Too Kind, Butterfly Basics (Stampin' Up!)
Paper:
Mixed Media Paper (140 lb. Strathmore), White Linen (Ellen Hutson), Basic Black (Stampin' Up!)
Ink: Distress Oxide Ink (Blueprint Sketch, Wilted Violet - Ranger), Encore Ultimate Metallic Ink (Champagne - Tsukineko), VersaMark (Tsukineko)
Accessories:
Die-namics Mod Rectangles STAX (My Favorite Things), Stickles (Gold - Ranger), Embossing Powder (Metallic Gold Sparkle - Wow!)

  3. Wow..Hideko, You definately got the hang of creating a Splash Background!! Your DOX's are gorgeous and I love your thin Blueprint Sketch trim and then the wider black trim. The blue adds a bit of a shadow effect for more dimension. Your stickles on your silhouette flowers really adds gorgeous shimmer and shine to your image. Your matching gold heat embossed sentiment is the perfect final touch. Who ever gets your birthday card is going to be impressed, my friend. TFS and joining us at CAS Watercolour. Hugs..

  4. A beautiful splash background, Hideko! I'm glad you enjoyed the technique. You must have a very steady hand to add Stickles all over your stamped image - I'd have probably ended up with a blobby mess! Thanks so much for joining us at CAS Watercolour.
