I often wish I had majored in art - or at least that I had studied some kind of art when I was at school. But I didn't, so I started learning art-related bits and pieces online this year. Better late than never, they say, right?
I saw a "split complementary" color wheel palette last night, so I used it in my card today.
Here's how it works: Red's complementary color is green, but instead of using green, I used the two colors next to green, which are yellow-green and blue-green (leaves).
I think it makes a subtle and interesting color combination.
The layout was inspired by CAS(E) this Sketch #210.
I wanted to try a new embossing powder I got called Rainbow Black, and see what the color looks like. It turned out the color was perfect for the dinosaur.
I also heat-embossed the sentiment in red on velum paper, and die-cut it.
Stamp: No Bones about It (Stampin' Up!)
Paper: Crumb Cake (Stampin' Up!), Translucent Vellum (My Favorite Things)
Ink: Bermuda Bay, Pear Pizzazz, Baked Brown Sugar (Stampin' Up!), VersaMark (Tsukineko)
Accessories: Deckled Rectangles Dies (Spellbinders), Embossing Powder (Rainbow Black - Wow!, Cherry Cobbler - Stampin' Up!), Sponge Dauber (Stampin' Up!), Thin 3D Foam Squares (3L)

CAS(E) this Sketch #209 - Get Well
I wish I didn't need this card, but a family member of a colleague got injured and hospitalized last week. She's in a lot of pain, so I chose a soothing color.
The sketch was based on this week's CAS(E) this Sketch #209.
I created the sentiment on my computer and printed it on both woodgrain and plain cardstock.
Paper: Woodgrain (Simon Says Stamp), Neenah cardstock (110 lb solar white)
Ink: Distress Ink (Ranger - Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Peacock Feathers)
Accessories: Circle of Leaves Die (Simon Says Stamp), Sequins (Multicraft Imports - Rhythm 'N Blues)
Thanks for visiting!

Valentine Treat Box
I made a few Valentine's Day treat boxes for my "little" friends.
I learned how to make the boxes from a Sam's blog post.
I learned how to make the boxes from a Sam's blog post.
I used patterned paper for these in the above picture.
And I made my own patterned paper for the boxes below. I stamped hearts, punched them out, and glued them on the panels.
I coated the hearts the bears are holding with Glossy Accents. This is my favorite bear stamp!
Stamp: All Inside (Ellen Hutson), Language of Love (Stampin' Up!)
Paper: Pink Pirouette, Strawberry Slush, Whisper White, Stacked with Love DSP (Stampin' Up!)
Ink: Pink Pirouette, Strawberry Slush (Stampin' Up!), Versafine (Onyx Black - Tsukineko)

CAS(E) this Sketch #207 - Space Background
I've been wanting to do this space background with distress ink since I learned how to do it in a Kristina Werner's blog post.
This week's CAS(E) this Sketch challenge (#207) was perfect for trying out this background.
Actually, my design is the reverse of the sketch.
I embossed the sentiments and little elements in clear.
Stamp: Space Bears (Mama Elephant)
Paper: Bristol Smooth White (100 lb)
Ink: Distress Ink (Ranger - Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, Black Soot), Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers (Kuretake - 028, 065, 024, 060, 050, 052, 044, 037), Versafine (Onyx Black - Tsukineko), VersaMark (Tsukineko)
Accessories: Clear Ultra Fine Embossing Powder (Hero Arts),
Artist Brushes (Ranger), Mini Ink Blending Tool (Ranger),
Double-sided Foam Tape (3M)
