Our talented designer, Christine, is hosting the challenge, and the theme is Masculine. We have Bobby as a guest designer.
Here's what I made:
I made a few blue/green Alcohol Ink acetate backgrounds. Unfortunately, I ruined two of them when I heat-embossed them. The acetate sheets I used were heat-resistant, but I heated them too long. I should have stopped as soon as the embossing powder melted. They quickly warped. They were heat-resistant but not heat-proof...😢
Anyway, there was only one acetate piece left, so I carefully heat-embossed the trees on it. Whew! Third time's the charm!
Then I matted the piece with red cardstock and layered it under the gray front panel. The sentiment was heat-embossed in red.
To darken the sky, I used Teakwood (alcohol ink), for the first time. The Indigo turned almost black and I liked the result.
The challenge closes on June 24th, so if you need masculine cards to send this winter, it's a great opportunity to prepare them now and play along with us.
There's a lot of inspiration on the challenge blog, so please check it out!

ReplyDeleteFantastic design Hideko! Love how the teakwood darkened the top of your sky. Always fun to experiment with colour to see what happens. The white embossed trees really pop against that dramatic sky ... beautiful. Love the idea of adding a red frame and sentiment on your gray card base. Great design, my friend! xx
ReplyDeleteStunning alcohol ink background. Yes you are not alone on heating acetate for too long! So glad you managed to save one, as it's unique and I love the addition of the dark teak alcohol ink. Such an atmospheric card, love the red matting and the grey card stock. So very eye catching and so very unique...love it x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Winter sky with your Alcohol inks, Hideko. I love how you added the Teakwood with your Stream and Indigo AI colors. Wow...gorgeous effect. So pleased (and so were you) that your 3rd heat embossed trees did not warp the acetate! TFS your beauty, my friend. Hugs..
ReplyDeletestunning AI background Hideko, love those deep blues. Acetate is a little tricky, I've avoided it but may give it a go after seeing this. Perfect masculine card :)
ReplyDeleteI love how your sky is brighter on the horizon and darkens, Hideko! So realistic! Your snowy tree stand stands out so beautifully against the dark background! I'm glad this one didn't melt! The gray card and deep red inner frame make this perfectly masculine!
ReplyDeleteThis is breathtaking, Hideko! I'm glad the third try worked because you've made an outstanding manly Christmas card!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteI've had the same experience with that acetate, Hideko! So glad you accomplished it, because this little scene is stunning! Nearly looks as if there is a bit of Northern Lights peeking from behind your forest! There's no need to tell you how much I love the gray card... so fabulous!

Spectacular backdrop for those white embossed trees. What beautiful framing too, the touch of red is the perfect matting behind the grey. Such an elegant card Hideko xx
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful sky and snowy trees - so glad one piece turned out. I also love the red mat around it - such a great contrast of colour!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous AI background, Hideko. The darkening with the Teakwood is so effective... really makes the embossed trees pop (good thing you had 3 attempts and the 3rd time worked!). Beautiful card! xx
